Alex Easton MLA has today welcomed the decision by the Ards and North Down Council to award the Freedom of the Borough to the Northern Ireland Fire Service.

Speaking today Alex Easton MLA said:

I was delighted that my friend and colleague Councilor Wesley Irvine proposal for Council to award the Freedom of the Borough for the Northern Ireland Fire Service. When I called for this several months ago Councilor Irvine took up the baton and put this forward to Council and gained unanimous support from all political party. When doing our research into this motion we were amazed that the NIFS had never actually received the Freedom of the Borough and that they had not been recognized for all the hard work they have done in fighting fires and putting themselves in harms way to save lives and prevent damage. After my own personnel experience with the local NIFS I watched how they did everything they could to save my Mum and Dad and I felt not just for what they did for my family but for all they do for all of us that they should be recognized and that is with the Freedom of the Borough for there bravery, skill, determination and for the lives they have saved this award is richly deserved.”
