Alex Easton MLA has today praised the Somme Memorial Flute Band after learning how they stepped in at the last moment to cover for a military band for the Ulster Tower Service while in France and Belgium.

Speaking today Alex Easton MLA said:

“I would like to pay tribute to the Somme Memorial Flute Band, who at the last moment and on their way to France and Belgium got a phone call in France at 12.40am saying the military band couldn’t make service at the Ulster Tower service on the 1st July. The Somme Memorial Flute Band had to learn Onward Christian Soldiers on route to the Tower that morning, as it was on the service cards for all top dignitaries for the main service. The Somme Memorial Flute Band made a special effort into making the service a success in front of the French Secretary of State, and all the major dignitaries along with other political leaders. I am hoping people will acknowledge what the band has done and give them the praise they so richly deserve. I would thank the Somme Memorial Flute Band you did yourselves and Ulster proud!”
