Alex Easton MLA alongside MIUS campaigners have launched an immediate judicial review against the decision of the Department of Health to close the Ards and Bangor MIUs.
Speaking today Alex Easton MLA said:
“While we condemn the decision by the Department of Health to announce closure of the Ards and Bangor Minor Injury Units we have been busy behind the scenes with our legal team Phoenix Law Center preparing a legal challenge namely a Judicial review against this ludicrous decision which takes important care facilities away from the people of North Down and Strangford. Our Judicial review will put a halt to the process of closure until as such it reaches court. We believe we have a strong case that the public consultation by the SE Trust was fatally flawed and will argue our strong case in court. This decision to go ahead with the closure was all about saving money it was not about the best care for patients, it had very little political support except for the Alliance Party which gave the SE Trust political cover and it certainly has no support throughout the community, let’s wait and see but basically were this goes.”
