Alex Easton MLA was shocked at the damage done to the roof of the Aurora Leisure centre in the recent storm, but says Council have question to answer about the structure.

Speaking today Alex Easton MLA said:

“I am shocked at the scale and damage to the leisure centre it has really impacted the structure and in particular the roof. I am thankful the storm over the week end has not hurt anyone, but has caused a lot of damage with trees falling and blocking roads. I would praise the work of the emergency services for their speedy responses. The council needs to explain why such a new leisure centres roof was able to buckle and be so badly damaged in this weather; it seems to me that the design or materials used should have ensured the leisure centre should not have had this damage done to it. There needs to be answers as to why the structure of the roof was not able to withstands the high winds and the Council need to ensure that all the fiberglass that has polluted the playing fields and Castle park are lifted as they can be dangerous to animals and young children.”
