Alex Easton MLA has today queried why the Council are using so many Agency Staff after a letter from Council showed the use of 135 Agency Staff.

Speaking today Alex Easton MLA said:

“While I understand that it is sometimes important to use Agency Staff to help with under staffing and issues that need temporary help, I am very shocked at the sheer number of Agency Staff that are being employed temporary by Ards and North Down Council. From experience temporary staff are usually more expensive to hire and it also means the temporary staff are never safe in a full time permanent position. With the sheer number of temporary staff I would ask the Council does it make economic sense to have so many Agency staff and would it not be better to be creating theses Agency staff roles into permanent employment that would give this agency staff job security and probably mean less cost to the Council.”
