Alex Easton MLA has today called on Ards & North Down Council to take action to erect safety railings along the Ballyholme Beech walkway.

Speaking today Alex Easton MLA said:

“I have been contacted by the family of the lady who fell from the Ballyholme beech walkway and was seriously hurt. The family feel that if there had been safety railings as in other parts of the walkway then his accident could have been prevented. Having walked along the parts of the walkway on many occasions there are sections that are very high and I believe on the health and safety reasons especially after this awful accident that it is now time for the Council to seriously consider at these points to take the action of erecting safety railings. The drop at parts of the walkway is very high and this accident could happen again, it is time for action. I will be writing to the Council and will also raise with my colleagues to bring this matter to the attention of the Council. I would finally praise the efforts of the emergency services whose quick and professional reactions helped save this lady’s life.”
