Alex attended Kilmaine Primary School and Gransha Boys High School and Bangor Technical College.
A member of the Orange Order, he worships at Ballyholme COI.
Declared the best value for money Councillor three years running by the Spectator Newspaper when he was a Councillor.
Introduced 64 motions during his time on Council, achieved the creation of an RUC display, Groomsport village as an area of village special character, established an Anti-Social behaviour team, Civic reception for Bangor District and RIR, supported residents of Seahaven Caravan Park, protected Greenbelt at Towerview, opposes Water Charges.
He has dealt with 15,130 constituency cases as an MLA, submitted 6341 Assembly questions, 199 adornment debates & 110 Motions and spoken 768 times during his time in the NI Assembly, and has served on the Health, Communities, and Infrastructure Committees.
During his time has helped to save the Bangor Minor Injuries Unit and the Bangor to Donaghadee bus route achieved 5 pedestrian crossings, 5 new play parks and dozens of roads & footpaths resurfaced across North Down. Helped deliver a Mega pitch for Clandeboye, helped to arrange Jobs Fairs and the refurbishment of Groomsport War Memorial.
He aims to work towards new school builds for St Columbanus College and Bangor Central Primary School and Holywood, a new Play Park for Whitehill and to keep the play parks put under threat by Council at Groomsport and Donaghadee, a Health and Wellbeing Centre for Bangor and Donaghadee, help to improve Housing Executive property’s and remove damp, working on a sports pitches for Football, Rugby and Hockey in Donaghadee, want to protect the existing coastal path from being destroyed, the introduction of a five-year prison sentencing for animal cruelty. Working to try and get the Department of Infrastructure to resolve the serious underinvestment in the sewage system in Donaghadee. Wants to see 500 more Police Officers recruited to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour and 500 more nurses to help deal with backlogs in waiting lists, more done through the NI Assembly for local businesses, an immediate freeze in local and business rates to help with the cost of living crisis. He also wants to be involved in creating a Unionist Convention to try and unite Unionism and to sell the benefits of the Union to everyone.
