Alex Easton MLA has today welcomed plans by NIW to do a complete CCTV survey of Donaghadee entire sewer network after a NI Assembly Question.

Speaking today Alex Easton MLA:

“I am delighted after representation at the NI Assembly and NI Water that there is to be a survey of the entire Donaghadee sewer network to establish what needs done to resolve the issues of sewage leaks and flooding which have been occurring in different areas of Donaghadee. It is obvious the entire Donaghadee Network can’t cope with the current usage and this survey will hopefully identify were the problems are and for plan to be put in place to then resolve and put investment in place. There is no point complaining about the issue unless you are prepared to actually go and use your voice and make things happen. That’s what I am planning to do for the people of Donaghadee by making things happen.”

NI Water has been developing a drainage area model for the Donaghadee sewer catchment, which involves carrying out a CCTV survey of the sewer system and deployment of flow monitors across the sewer network. The Donaghadee Model Build and the Verification of the Model is currently planned for completion in Autumn 2021. Once the Model is developed and verified, it can then be used in assessing the needs and options for the Donaghadee area. The use of the verified Model will enhance NI Water’s knowledge of the Donaghadee sewer catchment, sewer pipe condition and groundwater infiltration and misconnection issues. It will also permit an optimisation assessment of the sewer network and the wastewater pumping stations in the area, which passes flow to the North Down and Ards wastewater treatment works. The Donaghadee Model will also help to inform potential future capital investment projects within the Donaghadee sewer catchment, aimed at improving wastewater capacity and facilitating future growth and development.
