Alex Easton MLA has been left stunned at the lack of prosecutions for littering by North Down Borough Council.
“I have been left rather stunned by the lack of prosecutions by North Down Borough Council and by Councils as a whole right across Northern Ireland. I will be looking to see why there has been a lack of prosecutions over the last three years with just one being recorded for North Down Borough Council. It is important however to put this into prospective and we need to see how many fixed penalty notices have been issues by North Down Borough Council, this will perhaps give us a truer reflection of what is being done to deal with our litter problem.”
“As a sea side town it is vitally important that we do all we can to send out a clear message of zero tolerance to those who litter, as we want to attract as many tourists to North Down as possible.”
