Alex Easton MLA has today called on Ards and North Down Council to award Lady Sylvia Hermon the Freedom of the Borough.
Speaking today Alex Easton MLA said:
“Lady Sylvia Hermon served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for the constituency of North Down from 2001 to 2019 and never lost an election. She served with distinction and energy and helped everyone that went to her for help. Her career has been one of public service and I feel even though I may not have always agreed with the direction she took on every issue, I do however firmly believe every decision taken and made was in the best interest of her constituents. I believe that Lady Hemon was principled and honourable and feel she has not been recognised for her service to North Down which is why I am today calling on Ards and North Down Council to award Lady Sylvia Hermon the freedom o the Borough which I believe she richly deserves and is the highest honour we can bestow on an individual.”
