Alex Easton MLA expresses annoyance as some Insurance company’s try to avoid paying out to businesses affected by corona virus.

Speaking today Alex Easton MLA said:

“I am rather annoyed after receiving several complaints from businesses across North Down who have insurance cover for their business covering pandemics, but are finding that their insurance companies are trying to dodge claim payments. At a time where everyone must play there part in helping businesses to both survive the current crises and indeed be in apposition to be able to operate once this crisis is over, it is important that those business which are badly affected and are covered by their insurance so that they can make claims that are totally legitimate!”

“It is totally unacceptable for any insurance firm that have sold businesses insurance that covers them for pandemics are refusing to pay out and I would urge them to remember Government commitments that all insurance company’s must not avoid their responsibility during this period. I am today writing to both the First & Deputy First Ministers and the department of the Economy to make sure they are aware of what is going on, and fully expect their support to ensure that insurance companies do not fail in their duty and responsibility to pay out for compensation claims for local businesses.”
