Alex Easton MLA has received details on the scale of Fly tipping across the Council area in a Freedom of Information request.
Speaking today Alex Easton MLA said:
“I have been aware from calls received to my office of an increase of people contacting me about issues of fly tipping incidents. I am always a firm believer of having these incidents reported as soon as possible as I want to keep North Down in particular clean and tidy and having rubbish lying about the place is just not acceptable in my mind. These figures show from April 2023 when this decision was made by Council to restrict our recycling with this booking system that there has been a month on month increase in incidents of fly tipping. I believe this is just the tip of the iceberg because there are also incident of fly tipping being reported separately to both the Housing Executive and the Department of Infrastructure. I believe the Council are to have another update on how the recycling center booking system is working and I urge councilors not to be fooled by clever council officers wooly words and check the facts. The recycling centers capacity for use is well down and their is now an increase in fly tipping. Do the right thing by your constituency and do away with the booking system.”
