Alex Easton MLA has today called on Ards and North Down Council to resolve the grave plot scandal and issue an apologise to the family’s.

Speaking today Alex Easton MLA said:

“I am horrified and deeply angry to discover that people who have bought grave plots for their loved ones or even for themselves for the future to accommodate a certain amount of burials are now discovering that in some cases they can’t use the grave for the last person as they do not have enough room despite buying their grave plots in good faith from the Council.”

“What is even more shocking is that family’s are in some cases being told the day before their loved one is amount to be buried that they cannot be buried in that play despite it being bought for them, and are having to cancel the burial and either being forced to buy a new grave plot or changing to a cremation. This is an utter scandal and the Council should be contact all those grave owners to inform them if there is a problem with their grave plot size and not informing family’s the day before a burial causing shock, hurt and anger, the Council needs to apologise to the family’s as this is a scandal.”
