Alex Easton MLA has today called on the Health Minister to scrap car parking charges immediately for Health Staff.
Speaking today Alex Easton MLA said:
“The Health Minister dropped car parking charges for Health Staff in the first phase of the Covid 19 pandemic but unfortunately they were reintroduced. Today I am calling on the Health Minister to scrape car parking charges for the second wave of the Covid 19 pandemic and look at scrapping them altogether.
“I have always said car parking charges for Health Staff are unfair, and it is time something was done about it. We have situation were the Trusts are charging staff to park at their places of work right across all Trusts. I believe this is totally unfair especially for the work they do on our behalf. No employer should ever charge staff to have to come to their work place, and to find a car parking space, which can’t even be guaranteed.”
“I am also concerned that some Health Staff are often having to park out on the streets and sometimes streets some distance away from their places of work as they can’t even get space at their place of work, and they still have to pay the car parking charges which is unfair. This car parking charge comes directly out their pay packets and staff do not even get an option on the issue.”
“It I my view this is a convenient way for Hospital Trusts to make easy money out of their staff and it is so wrong. I am today calling on the Health Minister to stop this unfair practice as a matter of urgency. It is time to give something back to our Health Staff instead of just taking.”
