Alex Easton MLA has welcomed the announcement of a further financial package to assist local Care Homes by Health Minister. The package includes additional funding for extra equipment, financial assistance to cover staff sick pay costs and tablet devices to help families communicate with loved ones.
Speaking today Alex Easton MLA said:
“This announcement of a further package for our local care homes across North Down is a very welcome step. The Department of Health is continuing to address concerns and greater enhance the support available in residential settings.
The package will go a long way in relieving some of the financial pressures on Care Homes in this intensive period for their workforce.
I am also particularly pleased to see inclusion of support to provide tablet devices for Homes to facilitate greater communication with their families. For many it has been months since they last saw their loved ones who live in residential care homes. This increased level of interaction will be of great comfort to many.
COVID-19 remains a serious threat especially to Care Homes. Vulnerable members of our community need continued protection, as do the thousands of dedicated Care workers across North Down. We are indebted to their work in caring for our loved ones at this most difficult and challenging time.
