Alex Easton MLA has today again called for the removal of the loading bays on Main St in Bangor.
Speaking today Alex Easton MLA said:
“I have again written to the Department of Infrastructure about the loading bays which have caused havoc for local drivers, and for residents wanting to park on Main Street and cannot. There are four loading bays between the top of Mains Street and Bridge Street in Bangor and drivers are not aware that having a marked loading bay area, means they cannot park there. There is also a very small sign above head height and most people do not see the signs. These loading bays have taken away much-needed parking spaces from the Town Centre and are also affecting local businesses, they are meant to stop vans from double parking but despite having loading bays at the rear of businesses some are still double parking and the whole concept of having a loading bay on Main Street is just a mess, and is bad for business and shoppers and they need to go. I am today calling on the Department of Infrastructure to review the situation as a matter of urgency and for these loading bays to be removed especially on Main Street as they are serving no obvious means or benefits to anyone and have been a complete waste of time.”
