Alex Easton MLA has meeting with the Chief Executive of NIID to try and get to the bottom on why they are taking the disgraceful decision to close Stewart Memorial Nursing Home.

Speaking today Alex Easton MLA said:

“Having studied the accounts for last year for NIID, and I am more convinced than ever that there is absolutely no reason to close this privately run nursing home. With a loss of around only £40,000 we see that NIID have Unrestricted funds of £5,219,917. We also know that the home can take 30 residents yet for the last year there has only been around 18 residents. Residents and staff need to know what is really going on at NIID ,as the whole issue is affecting staff morale, the health and wellbeing of the residents and their families and the reputation of NIID.”

“I have a meeting today with the Chief Executive today and have also asked for a meeting with the Trusties of NIID and the South Eastern Trust, to try and get open and transparent answers. I believe that Stewart Memorial Nursing Home is financially viable and that there is absolutely no need for closure, and I will do everything I can to try and get the trusties to change their minds.”
