Alex Easton MLA has today called on the Health Minister to speed up plans to roll out the Covid Vaccine as it emerges some of Northern Irelands population won’t get the vaccine until the summer of 2021.
Speaking today Alex Easton MLA said:
“I was rather dismayed to hear the Chief Medical officers say that some people won’t get the Covid vaccination until the summer of 2021 on the Nolan radio show. This is rather surprising, especially after the debate held in the Northern Ireland Assembly, were the Health Minister seemed to indicate the urgency that this needed to be rolled out.”
“The Health Minister needs to urgently show leadership, and no matter what the cost ensure that the resources and staff and training that are needed are put in place, so that everyone in Northern Ireland who wishes to take the vaccine voluntarily gets the vaccine but at a speedier rate than the summer of 2021 indicated by the Chief Medical Officer. I know that this is a huge undertaking, but surly there is the funding there to expand on the 1000 staff mentioned in the NI Assembly debate. If the Minister needs to use the Army for help as an example, I am sure people will not mind because we are all in this together and it makes no difference as to who gives us the vaccination”
“The Health Minister has the plans in place, he just needs to increase the capacity and if there is financial issues then go to the NI Executive and discuss the problem, and ask for more finances to get this done faster, as people’s lives and health are depended on this, and we want to get back to normality as soon as we all can, so let’s speed this process up”
