Alex Easton MLA has called on the public to rally behind our hospitality industry as restrictions are eased and local businesses open their doors again.

Speaking today Alex Easton MLA said:

“Coronavirus and the associated lockdown restrictions have had a hugely damaging impact on our local hospitality sector. Busy, bustling businesses have had to close their doors to their valued customers to protect public health, and we should recognise the sacrifice made by local businesses.”

“As our hospitality sector reopens we need to rally behind these businesses and help them to survive. Social distancing guidance means that turnover will be at best around 70 per cent of usual turnover. That evidences the challenges that many local restaurants, hotels and other venues will struggle to survive even now that they are allowed to reopen. In a sector that employs 67,000 people across Northern Ireland, we must rally and support these jobs.”

“I want to commend all our local businesses for their patience, their flexibility and their determination. Let’s get out there and enjoy these valued local businesses in a safe way, to help them get business going again.”
