Alex Easton MLA was pleased to receive notification that the Donaghadee Post office is to remain in its present location for the moment.
Speaking today Alex Easton MLA said:
“It is good news for the people of Donaghadee that the Post Office in Donaghadee is to stay in its current location for the moment. I was delighted to receive a letter from the Regional Manager for the Post Office to confirm this. While this is good news it does come with a health warning which indicates by the language used in the letter that it may only be for now. It was good to see that the Post Office took into consideration people’s views, and in making their decision, they took into account all relevant factors including the impact this would have on customer access to the Post Office service in Donaghadee. It was also interesting to see that that there was a lot of interest in the move with a petition signed by 575 people and over 170 individual responses from customers and locals representatives. I also noted meetings were held with the Post office, with myself, our MP Lady Hermon and Councillor Walker. While this level of engagement is a positive thing, I would still urge caution as there is no guarantee the Post Office won’t move to another location in the future, and if this does happen it must be in a location central to the centre of the town so everyone can have access.
