North Down MLA Alex Easton has welcomed the announcement of six new routes from Belfast City Airport.

Speaking today Alex Easton MLA Said:

“Connectivity between Northern Ireland and the rest of the UK is absolutely vital for our economy. The announcement of these routes is a very welcome boost as we seek to rebuild from the COVID-19 pandemic, but is particularly good news for Belfast City Airport. It is testament to the dedication determination of the airport management following the loss of FlyBe routes.

“There remain challenges at a UK-level for the government to tackle however in terms of regional connectivity. The removal of Air Passenger Duty would be a first step to demonstrating commitment in this area. It is an unnecessary tax which is most damaging for geographically outlying parts of the UK. The problems which faced FlyBe and continue to face other airlines should not be ignored, particularly as they continue to adapt to the challenges of COVID-19.”
