Alex Easton MLA has today met with representatives from the Department of Education on the crisis facing post primary school placements in Bangor with party colleagues.
Speaking today Alex Easton MLA said:
“While this was a constructive meeting, the points of view put forward by me and my colleagues were that there needed to be an increase in the variation of school pupil numbers for Bangor Academy and other schools in the Bangor area. The huge increase in numbers were know about, and the simple fact is that those parents want their children to go to a school in Bangor and not elsewhere. I understand from the meeting that Bangor Academy has put in an application for an increase in their numbers this will take a week to be considered. I also understand that St Columbanus would also be prepared to take extra pupils if a temporary classroom could be put in place. I can only but hope that lessons are learnt by the Education Authority and Education Department, and that the full implication of what has happened and the devastation it has caused fully sets in and action is taken to address the issue and learn from these mistakes.”
