Alex Easton MLA has condemned those responsible for the incidents that occurred at Ballyholme beach, which seen an assault on a PSNI Officers, underage drinking and the breaking of the Social Distancing rules.

Speaking today Alex Easton MLA said:

“I really don’t know where to start with this, firstly I want to condemn those responsible for the assault of a female PSNI officer, and I understand that a person has been arrested for this and a further three also for various offences also. I wish the PSNI officer well in her recovery and want to say that this sort of behaviour is totally unacceptable in our society and will not be tolerated!”

“I also which to point out that I fear a rise in future Corna Virus cases case as we try to come out of lockdown, by breaking social distancing rules as we have seen on Ballyhome Beach on that evening is both careless, dangerous and really is potentially putting people lives at risk with the potential spreading of the Corna Virus. I’m sure many of the individuals that were there meant no harm and I appreciate that, however think about your actions how they can affect your family’s and loved ones and the population at this time in our history and I urge you to be more careful.”

“I would also urge the PSNI and Council Enforcement officers to be more visible and ensure that this behaviour is not allowed to build up in this way again, it is important we all do our best to protect lives and get that message out there that if we are to get out of lockdown then we need to all play out part and be responsible.”
