Alex Easton MLA has expressed deep sadness at the passing of DR Rev Ian Paisley.

Alex Easton MLA said,

“Like many people across Ulster and beyond, I was greatly saddened to learn of the passing of my good friend Dr Rev Ian Paisley. I know that he had been in failing health for some time, but the news of his death has still come as a shock to us all. It is the end of an era and we will never see his like again. Ian Paisley is one of the most famous names in the world. For decades, he dominated political and spiritual life in Ulster, and there is no doubt that he, more than any other individual, has helped to shape Ulster history and bring us to where we are today. Although he is gone, his legacy will live on for generations to come. I first met Ian Paisley when I worked in Newtownards Hospital, and I have many fond memories of him. As well as total commitment to principle, he had tremendous warmth of personality, which is why he was loved as well as respected. He is gone to his eternal reward. For him, all the weakness of body and mind, and all the struggles of life are over. He preached Christ all this life and he is now with Him forever. We will never see his like again. I extend deepest sympathy to his grieving wife, Eileen, his son Ian, who is of course our MP and all the other members of the family circle at this time of loss. May they know the Lord’s hand upon them in the days to come”.
