Alex Easton MLA has today described the theft of historical items from the Somme Centre as despicable.

Speaking today Alex Easton MLA said:

“This is so disapointing to hear that two individuals have used the disguise of being visitors, and pretending to take part in a tour to break into a glass case housing important valuable items relating to the historical past of Northern Ireland. These items relate to a rare collection of Ulster Volunteer Force memorabilia from the first World War, and also the Home Rule crisis and the Ulster Covenant.”

“Those involved need to return these items immediately as it really is a kick in the teeth to the memory of those involved in those great historical events, and it is also devastating to the staff who work so hard to preserve theses historical artefacts. Those involved are despicable individuals, who need to be caught by the PSNI and brought before the courts to get their just deserts for this act of theft, and I would urge anyone with any information to come forward to the PSNI!”
