Alex Easton MLA has asked the council to consider building a Hydrotherapy pool at the new leisure centre being built at Newtownards for people suffering from Fibromyiaga and other medical conditions.
Speaking today as president of the Fibromyalgia Awareness Bangor Ards and North Down group Alex Easton MLA said:
“3% of the population of Northern Ireland suffer from Fibromyalgia which means 3% of the population of North Down also suffer from this condition. Those of us who know how debilitating this condition can be which causes, pains in joints, sleep disorder and much more know that one of the things that can help relieve the symptoms is the use of Hydrotherapy pools. We have a golden opportunity as a Council to include in the new Ards Leisure Centre plans a Hydrotherapy pool, and I am today calling on the Council to look sympathetically at creating one to cater for those who suffer from Fibromyalgia and other conditions. I have written to the Council on the issue which has been rejected out of hand by a council officer; however I will ask one of the councillors, Alderman Bill Keery to raise the issue at council and hopefully it will receive more of a sympathetic hearing.”
