Alex Easton MLA has today called on all banks to allow all, customers who are affected by the coronavirus outbreak to defer mortgage and loan repayments for up to three months initially and for the Housing Executive to also do the same for rents if affected by the coronavirus outbreak.
Speaking today Alex Easton MLA said:
“As the situation of Coronavirus starts to affect business and the health of many, it is vitally important that all walks of life and business and Government unit to do all they can to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus. Help must be provided for those that may have to go off work due to sickness but also may have their businesses badly affected due to the fall in footfall. I believe that it is now time for all banks across the United Kingdom to allow those that become ill and cant work or those who have mortgages and their businesses are badly affected due to coronavirus are allowed the opportunity to avail of a Mortgage holiday / deferent of their mortgages until think become stable and back to normal. This does not mean at the end of this period that banks try to profit from the deferment of mortgages as a result when it becomes time for repayments to start. I urge Government to consider bringing in laws for this to be implemented if banks do not voluntarily agree to these sensible plans.”
