Alex Easton MLA calls for a pedestrian crossing for St Columbanus College after another serious accident on the A2 at the Ballymaconnell Road/A2 junction on Friday.

Speaking today Alex Easton MLA said:

Alex Easton MLA has today called on the Department of infrastructure to speed up the process to install a pedestrian crossing for the A2 ring road/Ballymaconnell Road junction to provide a safety crossing for children crossing the road after the latest serious road accident on Friday. This is the only major school in Bangor that does not have a safety crossing of some description with a school whose numbers are heading to well over 700. Having met with the head and also concerned parents some time ago and having taken the time to view the school pupils getting out at 3,30pm it is clear that TNI and the Department of Education have a responsibility to lobby and help deliver a Pedestrian safety crossing of some description to provide a safe crossing for our children but also for the residents living in the area that use the local shops. I had written to the Education Authority and Transport NI and asked for a survey to be conducted with a view for action to be taken and so far it has become yet another long drawn protracted process instead of just getting on with putting in the safety measures required.”
