Establishing ownership of a piece of ground is not always easy. This was the case for a forgotten access road just off the Killaughey Road Donaghadee.
Alex Easton MLA and local Councillor Janice MacArthur have now established that it is owned by the Northern Ireland Housing Executive.
Having been dug up over the years and with many unsafe features, this access road to Victoria Crescent and Victoria Court has been the scene of many accidents, stumbles and falls.
Following a site meeting held on Thursday 1 October 2020, the NIHE have agreed to prioritise the work required on this road as part of their 20/21 works programme.
Welcoming this initial news Alex Easton MLA said, ‘This is good news for local residents and parents taking their children to and from school who have had to negotiate this unsafe surface for far too long. I look forward to the NIHE making good this piece of road for the benefit of the whole community.’ Councillor MacArthur has also welcomed the news. ‘Local residents have advised me that there have been several accidents here. This is by far one of the worst surfaces that I’ve seen so I’m not surprised that accidents have occurred. I welcome the news that it will be made good and will be safer for everyone.’
