Alex Easton MLA has been given the top three road resurfacing priorities for North Down, in an NI Assembly written question.

Speaking today Alex Easton MLA said:

“I am delighted to see that High Street, Holywood, Ballymiscaw Road, Holywood and the Ballyrobert Road, Crawfordsburn are in the top three road resurfacing priorities. I am however somewhat disappointed that Ashfield Drive and Beechfield Drive in Donaghadee are not at the very top also, and I will be continuing to pursue this issue. I would particularly welcome High Street in Holywood as this is vital in making the town more attractive due to the recent public realms works. A new road surface for High Street in Holywood will finish the good work already done and will help to attract further business to the town. While welcoming the priority’s there are other areas across North Down that need roads resurfaced and I will continue to campaign to have this done.”

Ends:

To ask the Minister for Regional Development to list the roads in North Down that require resurfacing, ranked in order of priority need. My Department undertakes an annual programme of road reconstruction and resurfacing works, subject to the availability of financial resource. Safety inspections help to identify the condition of public carriageways and this information is then used in the preparation and prioritisation of Transport NI’s annual resurfacing programme. Programmes are prepared on the basis of a number of factors encompassing the road usage, general surface condition, structural deformation, public enquiries and public liability claims. However, it is necessary to regularly revise and reprioritise schemes for a wide range of reasons, for example, receipt of additional in year funding, notification of works by utilities etc. This, unfortunately, can result in some planned works being delayed longer than initially planned. At present, the three highest priority roads within North Down that require resurfacing, ranked in order of priority need, are as follows: High Street, Holywood Ballymiscaw Road, Holywood Ballyrobert Road, Crawfordsburn It should be noted that this list is continually assessed, with individual schemes being prioritised relative to each other. However, the timescale for their implementation is subject to the availability of funding.
