Alex Easton MLA has reacted with delight at the news that the Department of Education has agreed to extra year 8 places at Bangor Academy and Strangford College.

“This is fantastic news and I am delighted that the Department of Education has listened to me and the DUP delegation that went to meet them. The news that 40 extra places are to be allocated to Bangor Academy and 19 for Strangford College will be welcomed by many of those parents still not to have a place for their child for year 8. However there is still more work to be done as there will still be some parents who will still need places for their children and it very important that lessons are learnt from this years’ experience so that this does not happen for next year...

ALEX EASTON MLA EXPRESSES CONCERN AT SAFETY OF PLAYPARK AT BALLYHOLME.

Alex Easton MLA has today expressed concerns at the safety of the play park at Ballyholme.

Speaking today Alex Easton MLA said:

“I have been approached by concerned parents about the safety of the surface at the bottom of the children’s slide. I was surprised to see that a hole has appeared that could potentially hurt a child if they landed in the wrong way. I am surprised this defect has not been picked up on by the Council as this play park is relatively new. I have contacted the Council on the issue and fully expect then to take immediate action to resolve this Health and safety issue.”

ALEX EASTON MLA EXPRESSES CONCERN AT REPORTS OF A CHILD CLIMBING OVER THE FLYOVER RAILINGS.

 Alex Easton MLA has today expressed concern and alarm at reports that a young child was seen climbing over the railings of the flyover on the Bangor to Belfast road.

“This is deeply troubling that a child has been seen climbing over such a dangerous area at the flyover. This could have been such a terrible incident if this child had fallen from the railings onto the road below. We are all aware just how busy the Belfast to Bangor road is, and the thought of the injury caused to a child falling from that height alone and then the possibility of also being hit by a car is extremely frightening...

Alex Easton MLA has today met with representatives from the Department of Education on the crisis facing post primary school placements in Bangor with party colleagues.

“While this was a constructive meeting, the points of view put forward by me and my colleagues were that there needed to be an increase in the variation of school pupil numbers for Bangor Academy and other schools in the Bangor area. The huge increase in numbers were know about, and the simple fact is that those parents want their children to go to a school in Bangor and not elsewhere. I understand from the meeting that Bangor Academy has put in an application for an increase in their numbers this will take a week to be considered...

 Alex Easton MLA and his colleague Alderman Bill Keery have today called on the owners of the Ashbry Shops complex to fix numerous pot holes at the car parking site.

“The pot holes at the Ashbury Shops complex are absolutely horrendous. I have received many complaints and I intend to write to the owners of the Ashbury Shops site to ask if they could do repairs as soon as possible!

“I have never seen a car park with so many potholes, I will be urging the site owners to do all they can to repair these potholes as soon as possible. I dread to think what damage could be done if a car hits one in the wrong way.”
