Alex Easton MLA with members of the Millisle & District Community Association visit the new disabled access from Shore Road down to the Lagoon in Millisle.

Speaking today Alex Easton MLA said:

“I was delighted to have been asked by members of the Millisle & District Community Association, Tommy beck, Kaye Boyle, Jeff and Lauren to come and see the completed works done to create a disabled access at Shore Road down to the Lagoon in Millilse. This project started when I had been approached by Tommy Beck on behalf of the Millisle & District Community Association to see if we could work together to try and persuade Ards Borough Council if they would consider installing a disabled access down to the Lagoon as it was impossible to access easily for disabled and older persons.”

“I wrote a letter to Ards Borough Council in 2012 on behalf of the Millisle & District Community Association to request if it were possibility to have a disabled access for the village. From the outset Ards Borough Council officers were very helpful and came out and met with members of the Millisle & District Community Association to discuss the proposals and any possible locations. Ards Councils officers presented a detailed plan to Ards Council who passed plan and the work was done over the last several months.”

“On behalf of the Millisle & District Community Association and myself we would like to thank Ards Borough Council for the support and to say how delighted we have a disabled access which has also made a huge improvement to the look of the area, it just shows that by working together we can achieve many things for the residents of Millisle.”
