Alex Easton MLA has today claimed that the DUP will block any attempt by the DCAL Minister to pass an Irish Language Act through the Northern Ireland Assembly.

Speaking today Alex Easton MLA said:

“This is just such a waste of time and effort by the DCAL Minister, there will be no Irish Language Act passed through the NI Assembly as the DUP will block this through the petition of concern. The Irish Language is spoken by only 5% and is already protected under European law. The Irish Language is being used as a political football by Sinn Fein and it will not be allowed to happen. Instead of wasting millions of pounds on an Irish Language Act, it would be much better that the money goes to the likes of the Health Service and Education System were the money is really needed.
