Alex Easton MLA has expressed shock at the complete lack of interest shown in planting trees in North Down.

Speaking today Alex Easton MLA said:

“I find it incredible that not one expression of interest for the whole of North Down has been shown to try and increase the tree population under the Department for Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs, Forest Expansion Scheme. Surely some statutory body such at the Council, or Hosing Executive could have looked at this with the land they have and see where we could have increased the tree population across north Down. Trees are the lifeline for the population of the World, they provide us with the Air to breath and for such an opportunity to be given to increase our tree population, and the failure to take up this opportunity is deeply worrying. I would urge any public bodies or indeed private land owners to look at this opportunity as I believe the Forest Expansion Scheme will again open in the summer of 2017.”
