Alex Easton MLA was very concerned to hear of a fish kill at Portavoe Reservoir.

Speaking today Alex Easton MLA said:

“This was truly a shocking site to see with many fish having been found dead or dying by local fisher men. Having seen this shocking site I have contacted the Council, DARD and NI Water. It appears from the information that I have received that there has been no pollution as the water has been tested.”

“However it appears that the reservoir has been restocked by DARD with very young fish that may not have been well enough equipped to be able to cope with the water conditions at Portavoe. The other possibility is that these new fish may have been diseased which could mean the whole fish stock being wiped out and making it impossible to fish at the reservoir for the foreseeable future, it is important DARD get to the bottom of this issue and restock Portavoe with healthy fish as soon as possible.”
