Alex Easton MLA has today called on Ards and North Down Council to reinstate the No charge for pensioners rate, who need items collected for disposal.
Speaking today Alex Easton MLA said:
“Having been contacted by pensioners who had believed that they did not get charged for the collection of items for disposal by Council, I was surprised to hear that council had introduced a charge of £15 for items to be collected and disposed of. I feel that our pensioners up to now had been getting a good service, and many who are on low incomes have to face paying £15 for this when it was free under the old Council is rather unfair and steep. I am today calling on the new council to relook at this policy and reintroduce the policy that pensioners should not have to pay for large items to be taken away by Council to be disposed of.”
