Alex Easton MLA has today called for North Down Borough Council to back the Bee Safe campaign after visiting organisers of the campaign at the Ards Arena.

Speaking today Alex Easton MLA said:

“I was delighted to have been invited by Terry Malcolm to see at first hand the Bee Safe Campaign funded by Ards Council for year seven children at the Ards Arena. This campaign aims to make children aware of the dangers on various issues, and does short fifteen minute talks on various issues before changing round with another group to go onto a different topic.”

“The different topics talked about to make children aware of dangers, involve Northern Ireland Electricity and the dangers of playing with electricity, the Coast Guards and the different dangers that could arise while playing in the water and what children need to be aware of, the PSNI and the awareness of stranger danger and bullying on the likes of Face Book. We also had talks from HAP on farm dangers and Translink on the safety of children going to and from school safely on the buses.”

“I believe the Bee Safe campaign provides an excellent way of making children aware of the dangers that can be out there, and is a short but effective way of engaging and teaching our children to be safe. I would urge North Down Borough Council to consider doing such an event with BEE Safe in the North Down area.”
